We require a model release for any recognizable person, including self-portraits or content featuring your children, spouse, and other family. It's essential for a few reasons, most notably:
- Our clients want and need releases! A client has no way of knowing who's who in your portfolio. An attached release assures our clients that the content is acceptable for commercial use (a note in the description isn't enough);
- Adobe requires model releases;
- Your content will appear correctly in search results (search facets use the number of model releases attached and the information associated with the model).
For family members, you may find it helpful to create a release with a 1-year range, so you don't have to create a new one each time. Many members create releases for each calendar year.
For self-portrait releases, if you include a note on the model release that it is for a self-portrait, the creation date is not required, and you may use it repeatedly. If you include dates on a self-portrait release they must match the creation date automatically pulled from your EXIF data.
