For the Territory field, select the country you were in when you created the content.
It doesn’t matter what’s visible; it only matters where you were when you created it.
If you don’t fill this out, your content will not appear in search results when clients use the “Location” filter when searching.
Edge Cases:
- Collages or digital artwork featuring content from multiple locations: Select the country you were in when you created the final artwork. (For example, you are in Spain, and you created a collage of photos you took in the United Kingdom: You were in Spain when you made the final artwork, so Spain is the territory.)
- You’re in Italy, and you take a photo of a model holding an American flag: Italy is the territory. You can put “American flag” in the keywords.
- You’re in international waters or on a flight: Choose the country you departed from or the one closest to where you’re creating.
- You’re standing on the border between two countries: Pick one.
Why shouldn’t I pick the country based on how my content looks or where we have the most clients?
For various reasons, including union or government requirements, clients often need content created only in (or not in) a particular country or region, regardless of how it looks.
If a buyer purchases something to meet a legal requirement and later finds out it doesn’t, it reflects poorly on Stocksy and could deteriorate hard-earned business relationships and trust.
Some contributors outside of the US have selected “United States” to attract our US buyers. Not only does this risk our buyers’ trust, it's actively self-sabotaging since many of our US clients are seeking content taken outside the US.
Should I leave it blank so I don’t lose potential sales?
This field is now mandatory, so there is no longer an option to leave it blank. There are zero downsides to adding the country. It only gives you a chance for more sales, not fewer.
You can find the Territory option in Image Manager in between the creation date and keywords:
